A new entrant in the high end Khan Market, this place has a making of everything fancy. Huge mirrors adorning the walls along with intricately designed furniture, makes this place classy with a touch of Victorian vibe. The place comprises of indoor seating, outdoor seating as well a separate rooftop area. The service is one of the best I have seen in recent times, whether it be the knowledge base of the servers or the time it took for the food to reach our table. They have quite a short and precise menu, but what they are offering is quite unique.
Beginning with the drinks, opted for mocktails as they are yet to get their liquor licence. The Civil House Special, a mixture of orange, mint and cranberry juice, this turned out to be quite a good drink. I was pleasantly surprised, recommended this is. Watermelon Ginger Fresca, this is one of those refreshing summer drink which is more than capable to quench your thirst. Hot Toddy, my favourite out of the lot, this proved to be the best winter drink, not to be missed.
Coming to the food, began the meal with Moroccan Spiced Baby Potato which was topped with pepper salsa. Sadly there wasn’t something spicy about this dish and overall it was quite bland for my palate. Balinese Chicken on Lemon Grass stick which was served in a shot glass with sweet chilly dip at bottom, proved to be a real winner. Juicy chicken with lovely lemongrass flavour was absolute heaven, highly recommended.
Warm Mushroom and Pak Choy Salad, with the lemon chilly vinaigrette providing the required zing and toasted almonds providing the crunchy element, this proved to be one really delicious dish. Civil House Sandwich Platter, I am not a big fan of sandwich but I absolutely loved the spicy chicken sandwich from this platter, recommended this is. Three Mushroom Risotto, the rice was perfectly cooked with delicious mushroom flavour laced in every bite, again a really good dish this was. Pan Seared Sea bass, served on a bed of vegetable risotto which was jam packed with flavours. The sea bass was perfectly cooked. My advice, if you can’t take the pungent smell of fish, then it is better to avoid this dish.
Lastly the desserts. Dark Chocolate Fondant with Ice Cream, I quite liked this warm, gooey and rich chocolate dessert. Specifically recommended for chocolate lovers. Hazelnut and Ganache Torte, look wise it had a certain appeal to it but sadly it lacked in taste. Vanilla Panacotta topped with orange and pink pepper gastrique, this dessert absolutely stood out. Perfectly bobbly in texture and such a light dessert. A treat to your eyes and a delight for your tastebuds, this is highly recommended.
Civil House definitely stands out in more than one aspect. Some dishes may need improvement, but overall the experience is quite good.
