I was recently invited to The University Bistro for special tasting of the new offerings that are in store for the foodies by Chef Anil Baunthiyal. Located at a distance of 5 minutes from the GTB nagar metro station, this bistro is easily accessible. The decor is very quirky and will specifically appeal to the student crowd. Each booth is decorated with different themes which included music, politics, backpacking and sports. Essentially the things that will quite appeal to the youth.
The welcome drink was a Watermelon Shot which is an infusion of thai ginger, lemongrass, leeks and watermelon juice and was very refreshing in taste.
Tomato Gazpacho, this is a cold soup, the texture of this could have been a bit smoother.
Confed Chicken Breast, this is chicken breast stuffed with spinach, corn and ricotta. It was served along with mashed potatoes, grilled veggies and mushroom barbeque sauce. The chicken was beautiful cooked and the sauce made it even more delicious.
Mexiskin Potatoes with Kapsa Rice, this is jacked potatoes stuffed with spinach, mushroom and ricotta cheese served along with flavourful rice. The spinach content was a bit high in this dish, overall the dish was quite subtle in flavours.
Chicken parmigiana (Cheesa), this was breaded chicken breast topped with tomato sauce along with mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Texture wise it was crispy and taste wise really good.
Kiwi base Cheese Cake – The presentation was absolutely fantastic. This dessert had layers crumbs topped with cheesecake. And considering it was a cheesecake taste wise it was very refreshing.
The University Bistro is serving some dishes that sets them apart from the rest of the cafes. Their new offerings can surely be given a try. This is one of those places where you can enjoy a hearty meal without burning a hole in your pocket.
